Patty Mooney attended Michigan State University as a Freshman and Sophomore, where she honed her creative writing skills and studied film. Immersed in a world of literature and cinema, she explored storytelling in multiple forms, refining her ability to craft compelling narratives that would later define her career in video production and documentary filmmaking.
While Patty excelled in poetry, short stories, and film analysis, she felt the pull of adventure and real-world experience. Instead of staying to earn a degree, she hitchhiked to California to begin her life's work as a writer. This bold decision set her on a path of exploration, creativity, and storytelling, eventually leading her to co-found Crystal Pyramid Productions and New & Unique Videos, where she became a pioneer in video production, extreme sports videography, and documentary filmmaking.

In 2023, Patty Mooney was honored with San Diego Magazine’s People’s Choice Award in the Celebrating Women competition for Pioneer in Sports & Entertainment. Recognized for her groundbreaking contributions to video production and extreme sports, Patty has spent over four decades at the forefront of storytelling and adventure. As co-owner of Crystal Pyramid Productions, she has produced award-winning documentaries and action-packed sports content, earning her the title “Grandmother of Extreme Sports Videos.”
A passionate mountain biker since 1986, Patty has captured and participated in some of the most thrilling moments in the sport’s history, including the First Mt. Everest Mountain Bike Rally. Even in her late sixties, she continues to compete, winning back-to-back titles at the Sagebrush Safari mountain bike race. Her pioneering spirit, dedication to adventure, and trailblazing work in media have inspired countless athletes, creators, and storytellers.

Full Cycle: A World Odyssey

Patty Mooney played a central role in the creation of Full Cycle: A World Odyssey, serving as co-producer, narrator, and on-camera talent, while also contributing to editing and storytelling. This visionary documentary follows her and fellow mountain biker Mark Schulze on an epic cycling journey across nine countries, including the USA, Canada, Costa Rica, Wales, Switzerland, Greece, Tahiti, Australia, and India. Their adventure includes riding with pioneers like Gary Fisher, Charles Kelly, and Jacquie Phelan, as well as appearances by Hollywood legend James Hong and World Trials Champion Ot Pi. The film also captures remarkable moments, such as Patty and Mark becoming the first underwater mountain bikers in Costa Rica.
Patty was also among the first few participants in the First-Ever Mt. Everest Mountain Bike Rally, an extraordinary event that brought together riders to navigate the high-altitude trails of the Himalayas, blending adventure, endurance, and cultural immersion.
Her passion for storytelling, combined with her adventurous spirit, helped shape Full Cycle into more than just a travel film—it’s a cinematic love letter to mountain biking and global exploration. Patty and Mark traveled to South Africa, Uruguay, the Netherlands, Argentina, and the USA, capturing the voices of activists, scientists, medical professionals, and everyday users to present a comprehensive and compelling look at cannabis history, policy, and culture.
